What is biodegradable packaging?

Although our products are biodegradable, the term biodegradable packaging can also represent packaging that contains petrochemical plastics. A chemical additive is added to make the plastic break apart into smaller pieces (creating microplastics), but total degradation back to natural elements is very slow and problematic. For this reason Innocent Packaging does not use the term biodegradable as our products don’t contain petrochemicals. We solely use the term “compostable”.

It is for this same reason we don’t use the term BioPlastic. BioPlastic is an umbrella term that includes materials made from a mixture of plant-based plastics and petrochemical based plastics. Our products do not contain any petrochemicals.
